New year, new website! What do you think? In a bold and somewhat foolish move I woke up on the first Saturday of the year and decided to get “new website” crossed off my to do list. It was foolish because I hadn’t done this sort of web configuration in a long, long (long) time. And it was a bit foolish because I didn’t have time to relearn what I was no longer well-versed in, but none of that seemed to make a difference. I was off to the races with the momentum of a new year on the calendar.
On Saturday I went through Theme Analysis Paralysis, trying on theme after theme after theme and realizing WordPress had changed a whole lot since the last time I read the last “For Dummies” book. Then on Sunday I pulled the cord and jumped out of the plane. I committed to (and purchased) the pro version of this theme, Anariel. I love the colors, the layout, the visual breathing room and its elegance. But I think the back-end is crap. Some controls are missing entirely (change the background color in the main nav and yet there is no way to change the font color?). There are typos in what few controls exist (buton, not “button” in more than one place), etc. I could go on, but I’ll spare you having to hear about the reprecussions of my rush to publish.
In the end I was happy to dive back into a bit of WP and I was happy to have a new site (albeit a tiny one for now) but I see that in my rush to merely get it done I had to sacrifice a lot of hours and endure a lot of frustrating menu clicks. Happy new year and welcome to my new online look and feel. I hope you like it as much as I do. Tell me what you think and come back again soon. I think I’m going to be blogging this year too. I better stock up on the caffeine. This is obviously not going to a year filled with generous amounts of sleep. Welcome to 2019. It feels pretty good so far.
